Club Racing

A racing heritage on the North West Norfolk Coast.

Club Racing is a mixture of monthly Fleet Series Racing and Handicap Cups with occasional Regattas and Open Meetings.

SBSC organises 7 main Series of races run throughout the season the first starting mid March and the last starting in October. Each Series has a trophy for each of the three main fleets (see Fleets page for current fleet arrangements ). There is also an "overall" winner based on handicap position. The Series are grouped mainly according to the season of the year and are either Saturday or Sunday series. In effect, over a typical weekend two series will be raced, one on Saturday and then a different one on the Sunday. The typical weekend format is two races per tide over Saturday and Sunday. To see the Racing Programme go to the calendar and filter by club racing for the year to plan your racing campaign.

Please note that the time indicated in the calendar for the start of the event is the start time for the first race. 
Also, if you click on the event of interest the High Water Time (HW) and the High Water Height (HT) are displayed.

Cup Races

There are a number of one off Cup races held throughout the year interspaced with the Series races. These are often historic trophies going back to the very beginning of Snettisham Beach Sailing Club. An inspection of these trophies reveals names of past and present members and families with some recording current members from "boy to grandpa"! Cup races are raced on an "all-in" handicap basis. There are also separate Cup Races for Juniors, held either on the sea or the pits. Also for the juniors is the historic Gore Cup, presented at the end of the season at the discretion of the Sailing Committee for the "Best U18 Sailor in the Senior Fleet over the season".

Friday Series & Friday Social Sailing

When tide times allow there is a series consisting of Friday early evening races to kick off the weekend with. Friday racing has been run as a Pursuit Series, but currently we have moved to a traditional series of handicap races, open to all types of boat. As there is safety boat cover provided (as with all organised Club racing) then the club also encourages Friday Social Sailing for those who just want to get on the sea. ALL ARE WELCOME.

With an enjoyable time on the water sailing, the evenings can often be times to experience the stunning setting that is Snettisham Beach Sailing Club with its Westerly aspect and sun sets over the water. (PS don't tell too many people ..). The club house and bar are open for the Friday evenings, as well as the normal weekend opening times.

Open Events & Regattas

The club holds periodic one off Opens and hosts Regattas over the season. These are often open to visitors and particular class organisations. If any dinghy class is looking for a host sea racing club to hold a class event than please contact the Sailing Secretary and we will see what we can offer. The club has a unique set up with its grounds providing plenty of room for visiting boats, parking, tents and camper vans.

SBSC Welcomes NEW Racers:-

If you are an experienced existing sailor, part-time or lapsed sailor, then why not come and give SBSC a try? Contact the Sailing Secretary and come and have a go. Any assistance or advice on boats etc from the appropriate person will be readily given. The club has a number of club boats that can be hired if you want to try something. (Availability of hire boats is subject to requirements of the Training Centre).
